Peltz Boxing Promotions returned to Atlantic City at Bally’s Casino for a six bout card featuring a main event between Philadelphia native Jamaal Davis & Somers Point native Patrick Majewski.
The 1st bout of the night was between Anthony Burgin (2-0) & Elvis Rodriguez (0-1) in the junior lightweight division. Burgin showed impressive accuracy against the southpaw & was able to land crisp two punch combinations & lead straight right hands. Rodriguez attempted to bull his way inside & work the body, yet he frequently ate combinations for his efforts. Rodriguez’s best round of the night was the third round, yet it was still a clean sweep for Burgin who won with scores of 40-36 on all three cards.
The 2nd bout of the night was between Greg Jackson (2-0) & Alex Sanchez (2-1-1) in the junior middleweight division. This was an evenly matched fight & neither fighter gave an inch inside the ring. They both came out swinging & a left hook by Sanchez injure Jackson in the 1st round, yet Jackson won the 2nd & third rounds with clean right uppercuts & combinations from the outside. Sanchez closed out the fight strong in the fourth & Boxing Insider scored it a draw, yet the judges scored it 38-38, 39-37, & 39-37 for Greg Jackson.
Saud Clark (2-1) & Anthony Prescott (1-1) fought next in the welterweight division. It was not the prettiest bout of the night as all four rounds were extremely close. Clark appeared to have clearly won the 1st round as a right hook stunned Prescott, yet Prescott cleanly won the 2nd round when a looping right hook knocked Clark backwards. In the end the judges scored it a draw with scores of 39-37 for Clark, 39-37 for Prescott, & 38-38.
The next bout of the night was between Millville native Joshua Reyes (3-0) & Tommy Garcia (3-3) in the featherweight division. No knockdowns were scored, yet this bout featured fierce back & forth action as Reyes pressed forward & kept the fight inside. Reyes did more damage with his short hooks, yet Garcia never backed down & landed a few acceptable shots of his own. In the end Reyes won the decision success with scores of 39-37, 39-37, & 40-36.
The co-main event of the night was between local favorite Chuck Mussachio (18-2-2) & Lionel Thompson (12-2) in the light heavyweight division. Thompson looked crisp tonight & his jab was landing early & was snapping the head of Mussachio backwards. A short right hand by Thompson wobbled Mussachio in the 1st round. Thompson came out strong in the 2nd round & opened it up with a solid body head jab combination. Later on in the round a left hook injure Mussachio & Thompson followed it up with another left hook in that knocked Mussachio down near the end of the round. Mussachio was hardly able to beat the count & survive the round.
Mussachio’s corner wisely decided to stop the fight before the start of the third round as he was still recovering from the earlier knockdown. Lionel Thompson silenced the Atlantic City crowd with a TKO success at the end of the 2nd round.
After a short five minute break the main event between Jamaal Davis (14-8-1) & Patrick Majewski (20-1) in the middleweight division began. Davis started off the fight strong & likely won the 1st round as he ended the 1st round with a crisp two punch combination. Majewski however began to take over in the 2nd round as his straight right hand began to land. Majewski kept up the pressure & Davis started to wither in the sixth round. By the seventh round Majewski was pushing Davis around the ring & landing almost at will. He injure Davis again in the last round after he landed two consecutive straight right hands. There was no doubt at the end of the fight as to who won & the judges scored it 99-91, 99-91, & 98-92.
