CLARK COUNTY LIBRARY PLANS USED BOOK SALE FOR TEACHERS
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District plans a used book sale for teachers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Clark-County NV Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Teachers will be able to purchase used books for 25 cents each. For more information, call 702-507-3400.
SUMMER GRADUATION CEREMONY PLANNED
The Clark-County NV School District’s 2nd annual yearly summer graduation ceremony is scheduled at 9 a.m. Aug. 14 at the Las Vegas NV Academy Theatre, 315 S. Seventh St. The ceremony will honor students from around the district who met graduation requirements through summer school. More than 300 students received diplomas last summer.
FREE MEALS AVAILABLE FOR KIDS DURING SUMMER
Clark County children can receive free (no cost) meals during summer as part of the Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. TEACHERS CAN GET FREE ADMISSION AT NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXHIBIT
Teachers in Clark-County NV can receive free (no cost) admission to the “50 Greatest Photographs of National Geographic” exhibit at The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas NV Blvd. South, through July.
Teachers must show school ID at the Imagine Exhibitions Gallery box office. The exhibit is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the last ticket sold at 6 p.m. General admission is $16. Locals, military personnel & seniors pay $13.
SCHOOL DISTRICT TO PROVIDE SUMMER LESSONS ONLINE
The Clark-County NV School District is offering online learning activities & resources for parents & students over the summer. Families with students in 12th grade or younger can access grade-appropriate activities in math & reading at ccsd.net/district/summer-learning-guides. The lessons are available in English or Spanish.
SHORT STORY CONTEST OPEN TO YOUNG AUTHORS
Aspiring authors ages 14 to 22 can apply for a chance to have their work published as part of a compilation book to be sold on amazon.com.
Applications for the Gateway Arts Foundation’s Helen Hearne Literary Scholarship are being accepted through Aug. 1.
Applicants can submit a short story in fiction or nonfiction of 14,000 to 21,000 words. The story must have a theme or central focus of NV or any of its towns. Three award classifications will be given based on age.

FOUNDATION SEEKS EXCHANGE STUDENT HOST FAMILIES
The Face the World Foundation is registering volunteer host families for the fall semester of high school.
Host families provide a loving home, meals & a bed while learning firsthand about another culture & establishing friendships in that will last a lifetime.
