•   GAAP Gross Margin 45.4%
•   Traditional Channel Sales $25.1 Million
•   E-Commerce Channel Sales $16.5 Million

COLUMBIA, Mo., Sept. 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — American Outdoor Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Select: AOUT), an innovation company that provides product solutions for outdoor enthusiasts, today announced financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2025 ended July 31, 2024.

First Quarter Fiscal 2025 Financial Highlights

  • Quarterly net sales were $41.6 million, a decrease of $1.8 million, or 4.1%, compared with net sales of $43.4 million for the prior year.
  • Quarterly gross margin was 45.4%, consistent with quarterly gross margin of 45.4% for the comparable quarter last year. Non-GAAP gross margin for the quarter was 46.0%. For a detailed reconciliation, see the schedules that follow in this release.
  • Quarterly GAAP net loss was $2.4 million, or ($0.18) per diluted share, compared with a GAAP net loss of $4.1 million, or ($0.31) per diluted share, last year.
  • Quarterly non-GAAP net income was $748,000 or $0.06 per diluted share, compared with non-GAAP net income of $98,000, or $0.01 per diluted share, last year. GAAP to non-GAAP adjustments for net income exclude acquired intangible amortization, stock compensation, non-recurring inventory reserve costs, technology implementation, and other costs. For a detailed reconciliation, see the schedules that follow in this release.
  • Quarterly Adjusted EBITDAS was $2.0 million, or 4.8% of net sales, compared with Adjusted EBITDAS of $1.1 million, or 2.6% of net sales, for the prior year. For a detailed reconciliation, see the schedules that follow in this release.

Brian Murphy, President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Net sales results for our first quarter came in as expected, declining slightly year-over-year, driven by a combination of order timing and recent trends in certain consumer markets.  Nevertheless, I am pleased with our performance, which included a significant increase of more than 76% in Adjusted EBITDAS, and reflected a consumer preference for innovative products from our popular brands in Outdoor Lifestyle and Shooting Sports categories.  New product innovation and expanded distribution opportunities are core to our long-term growth strategy, and both played a key role in our first quarter results.

“Innovation allows us to forge strong relationships with our consumers and retailers and expand our access to new markets.  New products launched within the past 24 months generated 23% of our net sales in the first quarter.  In Outdoor Lifestyle, new products from our BOG and BUBBA brands, including our Smart Fish Scale, delivered strong hunting and fishing performance and helped to largely offset softness in outdoor cooking and rugged outdoor.  In Shooting Sports, new products from our Caldwell Claymore family, including our Solo and PullPup clay target throwers, drove strength in shooting accessories and helped partially offset weakness in personal protection products, which is reflective of recent trends in that market.  We believe our consumer is resilient, and with innovation as our growth engine, we are excited about the new products we have in store and the future growth they can fuel.

“Expanded distribution opportunities are also a key part of our growth strategy and during the quarter we remained focused on ensuring our brands are increasingly accessible to a broad audience of consumers, both domestically and internationally.  Accordingly, our efforts to introduce more of our brands to Canadian consumers helped deliver international net sales of $4.4 million, comprising over 10% of our net sales in the quarter and representing growth of over 21%.  These results demonstrate the tremendous potential the international market holds for our brands,” concluded Murphy.

Andrew Fulmer, Chief Financial Officer, said, “Our balance sheet remained strong in the first quarter, and we continued to demonstrate disciplined capital management.  We ended the quarter with $23.5 million in cash and no debt after replenishing our inventories in preparation for the fall hunting and holiday seasons, and after repurchasing our common stock during the quarter.  We remain excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for fiscal 2025 and beyond.   While we anticipate that headwinds in the Shooting Sports category may continue, we believe that our initiatives to drive channel expansion, combined with our robust new product pipeline, will help deliver growth in our Outdoor Lifestyle category.  Therefore, we continue to believe that we remain well positioned to deliver growth in both net sales and profitability in fiscal 2025.”

Conference Call and Webcast
The Company will host a conference call and webcast today, September 5, 2024, to discuss its first quarter fiscal 2025 financial and operational results. Speakers on the conference call will include Brian Murphy, President and Chief Executive Officer, and Andrew Fulmer, Chief Financial Officer.  The conference call may include forward-looking statements and a discussion of non-GAAP financial measures. The conference call and webcast will begin at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (2:00 p.m. Pacific Time). Those interested in listening to the conference call via telephone may call directly at (833) 630-1956 and ask to join the American Outdoor Brands call.  No RSVP is necessary.  The conference call audio webcast can also be accessed live on the Company’s website at aob.com, under the Investor Relations section.

Reconciliation of U.S. GAAP to Non-GAAP Financial Measures
In this press release, certain non-GAAP financial measures, including “non-GAAP net income” and “Adjusted EBITDAS” are presented. A reconciliation of these and other non-GAAP financial measures are contained at the end of this press release. From time to time, the Company considers and uses these non-GAAP financial measures as supplemental measures of operating performance in order to provide the reader with an improved understanding of underlying performance trends.  The Company believes it is useful for itself and the reader to review, as applicable, both (1) GAAP measures that include (i) amortization of acquired intangible assets, (ii) stock compensation, (iii) technology implementation, (iv) non-recurring inventory reserve adjustment, (v) emerging growth status transition costs, (vi) income tax adjustments, (vii) interest (income)/expense, (viii) income tax expense, and (xi) depreciation and amortization; and (2) the non-GAAP measures that exclude such information. The Company presents these non-GAAP measures because it considers them an important supplemental measure of its performance and believes the disclosure of such measures provides useful information to investors regarding the Company’s financial condition and results of operations. The Company’s definition of these adjusted financial measures may differ from similarly named measures used by others. The Company believes these measures facilitate operating performance comparisons from period to period by eliminating potential differences caused by the existence and timing of certain expense items that would not otherwise be apparent on a GAAP basis.  These non-GAAP measures have limitations as an analytical tool and should not be considered in isolation or as a substitute for the Company’s GAAP measures.  The principal limitations of these measures are that they do not reflect the Company’s actual expenses and may thus have the effect of inflating its financial measures on a GAAP basis.

Southward Advisors, Delta Airlines, Aeromexico and other key Market Leaders to Host a one Day Summit on North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Various strategic partners have aligned for a one day trade summit in Raleigh on September 19th  that will focus on North Carolina’s unique business relationship with Mexico.  The event looks to connect and educate key industry leaders from North Carolina and Mexico on Mexico’s business climate, Nearshoring opportunities, logistics, and connectivity from the Triangle to Mexico via Aeromexico’s new daily service from Raleigh-Durham to Mexico City and the overall connectivity between North Carolina and Mexico via the Delta/Aeromexico alliance.

Mexico is currently North Carolina’s third largest trading partner only behind Canada and China.  Today’s current Nearshoring climate for moving supply chains back to the Western hemisphere makes Mexico a more attractive strategic location for North Carolina based firms.  John Hyatt, the CEO of Southward Advisors, a supply chain consulting firm focused on Mexico and Latin America sees the summit as an opportunity to motivate Tar Heel based business leaders to invest in Mexico for a more stable supply chain.  “So many firms that contact us are interested in manufacturing in Mexico but have never known where to take the first step.  For other firms, they never had a solid business case for Mexico because Latin American business climates can look so opaque from an American perspective.  We are looking forward to a lot of constructive dialogue on these topics on September 19th.“

Aeromexico’s daily service has seen solid success amongst leisure and business travelers since launching on July 1st.  “We are pleased with the performance of our MEX-RDU flight.” said José Zapata, Aeromexico’s VP of Sales for North America “If demand continues to increase, we may consider upgrading the route to a larger aircraft.  I am thrilled about this summit as it will give Delta and Aeromexico executives a forum to speak about our alliance and its unique offerings to business and leisure travelers.”  As members of SkyTeam, the two airlines have been in a strategic alliance for over two decades.

Other key speakers and sponsors will include Grupo Posadas, the largest hotel chain in Mexico, American entrepreneurs in Mexico who will share their stories, cross border finance, legal and logistics experts, and food and beverage/hospitality leaders from Mexico.

Tickets to the event at Fifth Third Bank in Raleigh’s North Hills district are currently on sale for $89.

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Celebrates the Birth of a Sumatran Tiger Cub at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park

Cub’s Arrival Makes Important Contributions to Genetic Diversity and Overall Health of Sumatran Tiger Species

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is celebrating the birth of a Sumatran tiger cub at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s Tull Family Tiger Trail habitat. The cub was born August 23 to first-time mother Jillian. This birth is an important step in San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s ongoing work to conserve Sumatran tigers.

Wildlife care specialists are closely monitoring Jillian and her cub, and they report Jillian has quickly taken to being a mom and has been demonstrating all the expected and correct maternal behaviors. The cub has shown attachment to Jillian and has been very active and vocal as they explore and grow.

“We are thrilled at the birth of this very special tiger cub at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park,” said Lisa Peterson, senior vice president and executive director, San Diego Zoo Safari Park. “This birth adds Jillian’s incredibly important genes into the pool of the population, furthering the genetic diversity and health of the Sumatran tiger species.” Added Peterson, “Jillian’s care team has done an exceptional job monitoring her and her cub throughout this process, and it has been a joy for them to watch her enjoy motherhood. We hope this cub will allow our guests to gain a greater understanding of this incredibly special species and the importance of conserving their natural habitats.”

The birth is a result of a breeding recommendation through the AZA Sumatran Tiger Species Survival Plan (SSP) Program. Each SSP Program, overseen by conservationists nationwide, ensures genetic diversity and healthy, self-sustaining assurance populations of threatened and endangered wildlife.

With only an estimated 400 to 600 remaining in native habitats, Sumatran tigers are critically endangered. Tigers face many challenges, including loss of habitat, human-wildlife coexistence and poaching. People can help protect tigers by avoiding products made with non-sustainable palm oil, an industry that harms tiger habitats, and by refusing to purchase items made from endangered wildlife.

Jillian and her cub will remain in her den for several weeks. This window of time is crucial, as it allows the youngsters to bond with and learn from their mother. When Jillian is ready, she will bring her cub out of the den, where they will have access to a specially designed maternity habitat that allows Jillian to keep an eye on her cub while they explore the outdoors for the first time. Wildlife care specialists estimate this will happen when the cub is 10 to 12 weeks old, though it will be dependent on health and behavior.

WANNA Parlay – The World’s Richest Parlay (PRNewsfoto/WANNA)

Wanna Parlay distinguishes itself by offering unparalleled freedom in game play. Unlike traditional fantasy sports games that confine players to specific lineups (e.g., 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs), Wanna Parlay empowers users to create their own unique parlays with varying amounts and types of picks. This innovative approach allows competitors to craft strategies that reflect their personal styles, making the competition more dynamic and engaging. To win, players must not only succeed in their parlays but also outscore their competitors, with points awarded based on the difficulty of the parlay. The parlays can be a multitude of teams winning via spread, winner, player props, and over or under scoring, and or extra innings or overtimes.

Origins of Wanna Parlay

Wanna Parlay is the brainchild of two entrepreneurs and former NFL & USFL Professional Football players and Division 1 College athletes, Jim Bob Morris and Carson Coffman, both having honed their competitive edge as Division 1 athletes at Kansas State University. Driven by their love of sports, competition, and taking risks, Morris and Coffman shared a vision of creating an experience that could replicate the intense emotions and competition they experienced on the football field. Their shared dream has come to fruition in the form of Wanna Parlay, which brings the thrill of competition to sports and gaming fans everywhere.

A Focus on Community and Social Experience

Wanna.com is dedicated to fostering community and social experiences. The app aims to deliver the joy of winning, the heartbreak of near-victories, and all the emotions in between, within a shared community context. “There is tremendous value in experiencing these moments together,” says Jim Bob Morris, CEO of Wanna.com. “That’s why we focus so much on creating fun and exciting competitions that connect people. Whether you’re celebrating a win or reflecting on a close loss, we want our players to feel alive and part of something bigger.” Carson Coffman added, “We are both super competitive and that lead us to create something that matched our backgrounds in professional sports and elite Division 1 athletics, the drive fueled us to create the most competitive and engaging daily fantasy sports platforms in the world, designed for those who love the thrill of competition as much as we do”

From Brazil to the World

The original product, Wanna, is a social peer-to-peer (p2p) gambling app that was launched in Brazil in 2019. Since then, the Wanna team has been tirelessly developing new games and social features to enhance the user experience. Wanna Parlay was initially created as a feature within the original Wanna app to offer larger prizes for parlays. Its success has now led to the standalone Wanna Parlay app, which continues to create fun and exciting competitions for sports enthusiasts.

Play the “World’s Richest Parlay”

Wanna Parlay is now available for download on the Apple App Store for IOS devices and the Google Play Store for Android devices, offering players the best risk to reward possibilities and the opportunity to compete in multiple contests each week and vie for huge cash prizes. Whether you’re a seasoned fantasy sports player or new to the game, Wanna Parlay provides a unique and exhilarating experience.

LUNA LUNA, THE WORLD’S FIRST ART AMUSEMENT PARK, WILL OPEN THIS NOVEMBER AT THE SHED IN NEW YORK CITY

The one-of-a-kind experience will showcase vintage carnival rides by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Salvador Dali, David Hockney and more.

NEW YORK, Sept. 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy, the world’s first art amusement park, will open for a limited time at The Shed in New York City on November 20th, after a successful debut run in Los Angeles.

A colorful, riotous fun house of carnival rides and attractions by the 20th century’s most celebrated and innovative artists, Luna Luna features a ferris wheel by Jean-Michel Basquiat, a carousel by Keith Haring, a wave swinger by Kenny Scharf, a wedding chapel by André Heller, immersive pavilions by David Hockney, Salvador Dalí and Roy Lichtenstein alongside additional pieces from Arik Brauer, Sonia Delaunay, Monika Gil’sing, and more.

Originally brought to life by the Viennese artist, pop singer, cultural pioneer, and peace activist André Heller, Luna Luna first enchanted audiences in Hamburg, Germany, during the summer of 1987 where it hosted 300,00 visitors. While a world tour was envisioned, the park’s treasures were abandoned in storage containers in Texas for more than 30 years before being hunted down by entrepreneur Michael Goldberg and then purchased, sight unseen, by world renowned musician, Drake. This newly formed Luna Luna team spent two years organizing and meticulously rebuilding the pieces, readying them for a second attempt at a world tour.

“You can be art-obsessed or have never heard of Basquiat, and Luna Luna will put a smile on your face. It’s one of those rare projects that has the power to bring together all walks of life—it’s a nostalgic format done in a totally new way,” says Michael Goldberg, Chief Experience Officer for Luna Luna and founder of Something Special Studios.

The resurrected Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy debuted in December 2023 in a studio in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles hosting more than 150,000 visitors and numerous special events.

“For Luna Luna at The Shed, audiences can experience visionary works by some of the leading artists of our times, all in the enticing and spirited format of an amusement park,” said Alex Poots, The Shed’s artistic director. “The Shed’s state-of-the-art spaces can create the wondrous setting to transport audiences to the enchanting world of Luna Luna, where each visitor can have their own magical experience.”

The New York show will include the aforementioned carefully curated selection of original artist-created rides and attractions, along with new soon to be announced commissions, components, theatrics and performances. This will be complemented by archival materials that delve into the history and significance and take visitors through the painstaking restoration process. Most importantly, visitors to this art amusement park will be transported to the world of Luna Luna as it was envisioned, with roving performers, curated music and an enchanting atmosphere along with access to iconic installations like David Hockney’s Enchanted Tree, Lichtenstein’s Glass Labyrinth and Salvador Dalí’s Dalídom. Guests can also visit The Luna Luna Store at The Shed, which will feature a curated selection of both archival items and new designs inspired by the original fair, including exclusive merchandise from artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Roy Lichtenstein.

“ART IS NOTHING IF YOU DON’T REACH EVERY SEGMENT OF THE PEOPLE”  –Keith Haring

The exhibition is produced by Luna Luna’s creative studio, led by Michael Goldberg of Something Special Studios, and Charles Dorrance-King, as well as Jacob Cohl, Michael Keeling and the team at S2BN Entertainment.

The limited run of Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy will open to the public on November 20, 2024. Tickets will be available through January 5, 2025.

Tickets go on sale to the public beginning Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 12 PM ET.
