Choice continues to break ground and open Everhome Suites extended stay hotels across the country. The Everhome Suites San Antonio marks the sixth property under construction in Texas. This will be Choice’s second Everhome Suites in Kentucky and the first in Kansas.

“These three new locations speak to our continued leadership in new construction midscale extended stay,” said Ron Burgett, senior vice president, extended stay development, Choice Hotels. “We’re opening hotels at a rapid pace and providing franchisees and collaborators like Highside with exceptional operational know-how in the category.”

The hotel details are as follows:  

  • Everhome Suites Bowling Green is located at 1699 Charlie Court and will have 115 rooms. Demand in the market is primarily driven by manufacturing and Bowling Green is home to Fruit of the Loom corporate headquarters and production facility, as well as General Motors, Henkel Corporation, Georgia-Pacific, Ball Corporation and Toyota facilities. The property is also close to Western Kentucky University, University of Kentucky College of Medicine and many hospitals such as Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital, TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital, The Medical Center at Bowling Green, and Southern Kentucky Rehab Hospital. The hotel is expected to open in November 2025. 
  • Everhome Suites San Antonio is located at 619 N Hunt Lane and will have 115 rooms. The Everhome will be located alongside Texas Highway 151 and Highway 410, which serves as San Antonio’s beltway and connects to San Antonio International Airport and Lackland Air Force Base, the sole location for U.S. Air Force enlisted basic military training. It is also within a five-mile radius of major corporate hubs such as JPMorgan Chase Operations Center, Nationwide Insurance, Capital Group, and a 1 million square foot Wells Fargo Home Mortgage operation and connection center, one of only two such facilities in the country. The hotel is expected to open in November 2025.
  • Everhome Suites Wichita is located at 3880 N Rock Road, about three miles southwest of Wichita State University, and will have 123 rooms. Hotel demand in this market comes from a mixture of military, manufacturing, and healthcare, with Spirit Aerosystems, Textron Aviation, and Bombardier Learjet headquarters and manufacturing facilities in the city. It is also home to McConnell Air Force Base. The hotel is expected to open in the fall of 2025.

The first day of the Broad Arrow Auction was held during Motorlux. The innovative collector car auction was one-of-a-kind, introducing a fashion show-inspired runway format complete with dual viewing galleries allowing bidders and audience members to immerse themselves in the automotive auction energy set against the backdrop of a festive party.

Vehicles making their global or North American debuts included the Kindred Motorworks EV Bronco, Meyers Manx Tarmac Touring Edition, McMurtry Sparrow and Evoluto 355. Displayed alongside the new were dozens of established icons including a Lancia Stratos, Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 and McLaren Speedtail.

More than 4,100 attendees experienced automotive installations, each paired with specialty food and drink including:

  • ‘Adventure Machines’ which hosted overland vehicles
  • ‘American Graffiti’ that paid tribute to midcentury hot rods
  • ‘British Invasion’ that celebrated the 100-year anniversary of Morris Garages Limited
  • ‘Honoring Marcello Gandini‘ which highlighted the life of one of Italy’s greatest car designers

Aircraft are a unique fixture at Motorlux which hosted over a dozen, including vintage fighters, private jets and helicopters. Among them was a P-51D Mustang known as “Plum Crazy” which boasts a history of air racing and air shows as well as a Citation 560XLS in a unique floral livery.

Additional highlights include no less than five auction records, led by a rare 1998 RUF CTR 2 at $2,095,000, representing a new record for any RUF at auction. The CTR 2 crowned a trio of highly desirable RUF models at the sale, all of which found new homes at strong prices.

BAE Systems to upgrade flight control computers for F-15EX and F/A-18E/F fighters


Technology refresh increases processing power to enhance aircraft performance, capabilities, and readiness

ENDICOTT, N.Y., Aug. 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — BAE Systems (LON:BA) has been selected by Boeing to upgrade the fly-by-wire (FBW) flight control computers (FCC) for the F-15EX Eagle II and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter aircraft. The FCCs feature common core electronics that support the quad-redundant FBW flight control systems (FCS), providing the safety, reliability, robustness, and performance needed for the missions of these advanced platforms.

As the original manufacturer of the FCCs for both aircraft, BAE Systems will modernize the FCC electronics hardware and software to increase processing power, enhance cyber and product security, address obsolescence issues, and support sustainment well into the future. The upgraded FCC will leverage the company’s high-integrity flight control product roadmap, built upon technology investments, and used across multiple recent military airborne platform flight control upgrades. The F/A-18E/F FCC will also receive an additional processor to enable future capabilities for the fleet.

These computers efficiently manage aircraft flight by processing pilot inputs, monitoring real-time aircraft movement conditions via on-board sensors, and transmitting commands to actuators that move the control surfaces. The redundant FCS, along with the flight control laws, enables the pilot to maintain controlled operation across the demanding flight regime and multiple loadout configurations. Additionally, the FCS can reconfigure how it controls the aircraft in case of a failure or battle damage by mixing the remaining control surfaces differently. The advanced FBW FCS allows the pilot to focus more on the mission and less on flying the aircraft.

BAE Systems has more than 40 years of experience developing and integrating flight control technology for military and commercial platforms. This flight control upgrade will be conducted at the company’s state-of-the-art engineering and manufacturing facility in Endicott, New York.

Washington, D.C. is the #1 destination for solo travel and dining in the U.S., followed by Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Salt Lake City, with the full Top 15 ranking revealed here. 1 OpenTable & KAYAK Data: OpenTable looked at the share of solo dining by month in 2023 and KAYAK looked at the largest share of hotel searches for one person by month in 2023.

2 Survey Methodology: An online survey was conducted by PureSpectrum among 2,000 general consumers in the US. Within this sample, major cities have been weighted for direct comparison. The research fieldwork took place between 3rd – 5th June 2024.

3KAYAK & OpenTable Data: A total of 25 cities have been selected based on the largest share of solo travel searches made on KAYAK and the share of solo dining at OpenTable restaurants. The solo travel share has been identified based on the hotel searches for one person conducted from January 1, 2024 to June 30, 2024 for the travel period between January 17, 2024 and November 30, 2024. To identify solo dining share, OpenTable looked at solo seated diners from phone, online and walk-in reservations from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023 in cities with over 50 restaurants on the platform as of January 1, 2024.

4KAYAK Data: To determine trends in solo travel compared to 2019, KAYAK looked at the share of hotel searches for one person based on searches conducted from 1/1/24 – 6/30/24 for travel between 1/7/24 – 11/30/24. To compare year-over-five-year, KAYAK considered hotel searches for one person based on searches conducted from 1/1/19 – 6/30/19 for travel between 1/7/19 – 11/30/19.

5OpenTable’s Top Restaurants for Solo Dining is generated from OpenTable diner reviews and dining metrics from April 1, 2023 – May 31, 2024. Restaurants with a minimum threshold of diner reviews were considered and evaluated by a compilation of unique data points, including diner ratings, the percentage of five star reviews, the number of alerts set, the percentage of reservations made in advance and direct searches. Metrics were weighted to comprise an overall score. The qualified restaurants were then ranked by the percentage of solo dining.

6OpenTable Data: OpenTable looked at online reservations for all restaurants active on the OpenTable platform for parties of 1 from June 1 2023 to May 31 2024, and compared it to the corresponding period in 2023.

7OpenTable Data: OpenTable looked at the average spend per guest for parties of one and overall from June 1 2023 to May 31 2024.
